As You May Have Noticed

You might have noticed that there are some changes happening around here. So far, it’s not a complete overhaul, but it might look that way. It also might look like it’s not quite finished – it’s not. For the moment, the technical bits of this blog are slightly beyond me. Please ignore the colours (I didn’t choose them) and anything that says “Please configure your widget”. I’m waiting on reinforcements with more technical knowledge and patience. In the meantime, I’ll fill you in on what I’ve been up to and why I’ve been away for so long.

It wasn’t on purpose. I had intended to simply take it easy while work was busy and then things sort of got away from me. And then the shit hit the fan in a few areas of my life. In July, there was a death in my family. While I’m not quite ready to share my feelings, I think it’s worth noting that the implications of this loss are far-reaching and devastating. It has affected every aspect of my life – my emotional well-being; important plans for the future; the dynamic of family; my interactions with the people around me.

While wading through a mess of emotions, I’ve also been looking for a full-time job outside of the home. I’ve been working on some personal projects and doing some part-time work to bring home some of the bacon, but I’d really like a reliable paycheck. I had planned to be back at work by now, but life has gotten in the way of life.

On a lighter note, I’ve been doing some penpal-ing (I don’t think that’s really a word, but it sounds more fun than ‘letter-writing’). I’ve got friends in a few different cities, (some are even out of the province or out of the country altogether) so I put out some feelers a while ago and now I have seven pen-pals. I’ve just finished putting together small packages of letters and drawings and things to send out. I’m pretty excited about it. I love sending and receiving mail and I love the concept of mail art. I’ll let you know if I get anything fun!
